Demand that Mark Carney start taxing the ultra rich.
Canadian billionaires increased their wealth by $95 billion last year. At a time of unprecedented wealth inequality, it’s unacceptable that the latest federal budget contains no new measure to make the ultra rich pay their fair share.
We’re calling on the Liberals to implement a wealth tax that would generate up to $40 billion a year

The Liberals’ budget contains no new measures to tax the ultra rich.
In fact, the budget doubles down on shoveling more money into the pockets of CEOs and investors, with the promise that we’ll all be better off for it. This has never worked. Not once.
The single biggest item in the budget is a “mega deduction” for corporations, with a price tag of $36 billion over 5 years. Fifty per cent more than all of the “affordability measures” combined. But where is the mega deduction to your grocery bill, or your rent?
That’s why we’re demanding a wealth tax – to pay for public investments that will significantly improve people’s lives and bring down the cost of living.
With a modest wealth tax starting at 1% on fortunes over $10 million, rising to 3% on the very richest, we can raise $40 billion a year and up to $500 billion over ten years.
With that money, we could:
- Make a down payment to build a network of 50 public grocery stores.
- Triple the federal government's community housing investment to build one million non-market homes for people.
- Make a nation-building investment in health care, including funding pharmacare from coast to coast to coast.
By prioritizing these three major projects, we can lower costs and make life better for millions of families.
