Who was Nigel Wright referring as “we”?

Senator Mike Duffy’s lawyer held a press conference today outlining explosive new revelations on the Senate expense scandal, raising troubling new questions about the Prime Minister’s Office’s role in an attempted cover-up and the $90 000 check from former Harper Chief of Staff Nigel Wright to Senator Duffy.

According to an e-mail from embattled Senator Mike Duffy to his lawyer, during the controversy regarding his improper living expenses Wright told him:

“…We have been working on lines and a scenario for you that would cover all of your concerns including cash for repayment”
– Mike Duffy email, as quoted by his lawyer, October 21, 2013

The “we” in that sentence directly contradicts something high-ranking Conservatives have repeated time and again:

“Mr. Wright himself said that he acted alone in the case of Mr. Duffy, and that is why he resigned. He acted alone.”
– James Moore, House of Commons, June 11, 2013

More than ever, it’s time for Stephen Harper and the Conservatives to give up their cover-up and explain the real extent of the PMO’s part in the Nigel Wright-Mike Duffy deal.

Conservatives can start by explaining who, exactly, was the “we” that Nigel Wright was talking about?

Canadians deserve better.
