Trudeau says “it’s not my job” to lead on public health

This morning, media asked Justin Trudeau why he didn’t do more to protect Albertans. He said:

“It’s not my job to judge or to criticize or certainly to tell people what to do at the provinces.”

Trudeau has consistently failed to show national leadership to fight the fourth wave:

Called an election during the pandemic after promising not to;

  • Delayed his national vaccine passport from “early fall” (before the election) to “a year perhaps” (after the election was called);
  • Left vaccine certification up to the provinces, delaying or preventing access in Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan;
  • Ruled out using the Emergencies Act in provinces refusing to implement public health measures;
  • Said no to paid sick leave 22 times;
  • Has not committed additional resources like the CAF to the hardest hit regions.

Jagmeet Singh:

“Canadians need better than ‘it’s not my job.’ It didn’t need to be this way. Instead of fighting the pandemic, Justin Trudeau called a selfish election. We need more than his empty words to defeat the fourth wave. We have to use every tool and resource available to keep people safe.”
