Statement by Tom Mulcair, Leader of the Official Opposition, for Hanukkah

Jewish Canadians are about to light the first branch of the Menorah in commemoration of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.

This eight-day celebration marks the perseverance that led to victory of the Maccabees, the liberation of the Second Temple and the miraculous flame that lit the temple for eight days.

The miracle of the Menorah serves as a reminder to Canadians of all faiths of the tremendous power of faith and hope to overcome darkness and despair. It encourages us to be steadfast and purposeful in pursuit of our goals.

As you gather with friends and family may you find strength and renewal in the traditions of old.
