Statement by Official Opposition Foreign Affairs Critic Paul Dewar on terror attack in Kenya

On behalf of New Democrats, I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those who lost loved ones in today's devastating terrorist attack in Kenya, in particular to the family, friends and colleagues of the two Canadians who were killed.

We join with the international community in condemning this cowardly and despicable act, as we mourn the loss of two of our own. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kenya in this difficult time.

The loss of diplomat Annemarie Desloges reminds us of the perils faced every day by Canadian diplomats who serve courageously around the world. Our hearts go out to her family, friends and colleagues as they mourn her tragic death. We shall honour her service to our country.

People everywhere deserve to live their lives free from the threat of terrorist violence. We urge the Government of Canada to make available all necessary resources to assist the Kenyan authorities in bringing the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
