Statement by New Democrat leader Jack Layton on the death of Betty Fox

It was with great sadness today that I learned of the death of Betty Fox, one of Canada’s most well known mothers.

Betty gave Canada one of our greatest symbols in her son Terry, whose stubborn determination was said to have come from his mother. Millions have been raised for cancer research worldwide in Terry Fox’s memory, and in celebration of his life. This year will mark the 31st annual Terry Fox Run.

Betty has been the voice of her son’s legacy since his death, and she will be greatly missed.
