Statement on NDP MP Scott Duvall’s Political Future
Scott Duvall, Member of Parliament for Hamilton Mountain, issued the following statement:
“After careful consideration and several conversations with my family, I have made the decision to not seek re-election in the next federal election. The honour of representing the people of Hamilton Mountain in the House of Commons has been an exciting and rewarding experience. The pandemic has given me an opportunity to spend more time at home with loved ones and I am looking forward to the opportunity to do more of that.
I want to express gratitude to our Leader Jagmeet Singh for his dedicated commitment to fighting for a better Canada. I wish all the best to my NDP caucus colleagues; it is with great pride that I stand with them in the House of Commons.
I’m very proud of the work our team has done to make life better for people. Our work to protect workers, people’s retirement security, and the work New Democrats have done to help get families through this pandemic is a source of great pride.
I would like to thank my hard-working team, both in Hamilton and Ottawa, the Hamilton Mountain NDP Riding Association and my Brothers and Sisters in the labour movement for supporting me and this work throughout the years.
I want to thank my family and especially my wife Sherry …. I am so grateful for your support throughout the years and I am excited to spend more time at home with you and our grandkids.
And of course, I’d like to thank you, the people of Hamilton. It has been a privilege to serve and to work with you as a Steelworker, as your City Councillor and as your Member of Parliament.
I will continue working with my NDP colleagues to help get families through this pandemic. And I will keep pushing the Liberal government to do what’s right and stand by workers and seniors, instead of wealthy corporations. I look forward to campaigning with the Leader and the next Hamilton Mountain NDP candidate, as we work to keep our winning tradition for the NDP in this riding.”
