Statement on National Aboriginal Day celebration in Moncton, NB

Jack Layton, Leader of the Official Opposition and the New Democratic Party of Canada, issued the following statement on the announcement of the first National Aboriginal Day celebration in Moncton, New Brunswick.

“This will be a historic celebration for those in the Greater Moncton area who will be recognizing National Aboriginal Day this coming June 21st for the first time.

The event has much to offer, including a flag raising and sun rising ceremony at Moncton City Hall, a march down the park along the Petitcodiac River, followed by music, dance, drums, food and much more.

“I congratulate the organizers of this historic celebration and their contribution towards recognizing and celebrating the important contribution Aboriginal people have made to Canada.”
