Statement by Guy Caron, NDP Quebec caucus chair, on the decision of the Charest government to hold a public inquiry on the construction industry

Like many Canadians, Quebec’s New Democrat MPs have closely followed the series of scandals that afflicted the construction industry in the past two years. The NDP is happy to see the decision of the Jean Charest Government to set up a public inquiry on the corruption and collusion in this sector.

We see this as a necessity in order to restore the people’s confidence in their politicians. Canadians have the right to know how their taxes are spent and it is natural that they demand more transparency from elected representatives.

It is important to restore public confidence in these institutions. Restoring transparency is a critical first step.
