Ruth Ellen Brosseau in the race for Berthier—Maskinongé

YAMACHICHE — After spending the last two years developing and promoting local purchasing in the region and working on her farm, Ruth Ellen Brosseau has officially announced that she is running for the NDP in Berthier—Maskinongé.

“For the past 2 years, I lived in the region in a very different way than the previous 8 years. I worked on the farm and I have been involved in different projects to revitalize our local economy. Even though I was already familiar with the local issues and those related to agriculture, I was able to experience, from the inside, the daily challenges faced by our producers, entrepreneurs and merchants. This motivated me to get back into politics,” said Ms. Brosseau. “That is why I believe I'm best positioned to take concrete action and make a real difference in their lives and in our lives."

Ms. Brosseau reiterates her desire to be part of the NDP family.

“Only the NDP proposes concrete, realistic and innovative actions, which are based on the reality and needs of people. The environment, food autonomy and labour scarcity are important issues for the NDP. I recognize myself in these issues and I understand their importance. The pandemic has greatly affected young families and seniors. Life is getting more expensive and the burden is too heavy on the people of Berthier—Maskinongé. I want them to know that I will fight for them.”

Throughout her career as a parliamentarian, she has made many gains for her riding and has built a solid reputation. Most notably, she was named one of the 20 most influential young female politicians in the world by the global network Apolitical.

After being elected in 2011, Ms. Brosseau served as MP for Berthier-Maskinongé until 2019. During this period, she was House Leader, NDP Whip and Critic for Agriculture and Agri-Food. She will seek a third term for her riding.
