Reality check: Which ‘broad terms’, Mr. Harper?
Documents released by the RCMP on the Senate expenses scandal bring up new questions about the Prime Minister’s role in this story.
Since the beginning, Harper has said that he knew nothing about the agreement before Nigel Wright’s decision to pay for Mike Duffy’s inappropriate expenses was exposed.
“As I have indicated, Mr. Wright informed me of his personal cheque on May 15” - Stephen Harper, House of Commons, June 5th, 2013
However, RCMP documents reveal that Nigel Wright confirmed himself that the Prime Minister knew the ‘broad terms’ of the agreement:
"The PM knows, in broad terms only, that I personally assisted Duffy when I was getting him to agree to repay the expenses” - Nigel Wright, May 14th email, quoted by the RCMP
According to these documents before Wright executed the plan to pay for Duffy’s and keep in queit, Wright asked for Harper’s permission:
“I do want to speak to the PM before everything is considered final.” “We are good to go from the PM(…)” - Nigel Wright, February 22nd email, quoted by the RCMP
The Prime Minister continues to hide behind his carefully chosen lines to avoid answering questions on the PMO’s involvement in this story.
Canadians deserve better, they deserve the truth.
