REALITY CHECK: Trudeau’s Earth Day hot air

With every passing day, it is becoming clear that Justin Trudeau’s climate plan is a failure. Contrary to his 2015 Paris Summit claims that 'Canada is back, my friends. Canada is back, and here to help', Canada is in fact not back.

And with a new Democratic President with real ambitions to tackle the climate crisis, Canada is set to be outpaced by our neighbours to the South.

Trudeau’s failure to meet his own unambitious goals on fighting climate change are clear. How are we doing at meeting those Paris Accord targets? Badly.

“Canada is the only G7 nation whose greenhouse gas emissions have increased since the Paris climate agreement was signed six years ago.” - The New York Times, April 21, 2021

Worse yet, reports in advance of today’s climate summit with President Biden are showing that Canada is set to become the wet blanket of ambition:

Biden is expected to target a 50% cut to greenhouse-gas emissions below US 2005 levels by 2030.

Trudeau? He’s pledging to cut emissions by 40% to 45% by 2030 when the science has been clear that Canada needs to cut its emissions by at least 50% by 2030.

Let’s not forget, this Prime Minister bought a pipeline and continues to send billions in subsidies to the oil and gas industry. Without Stephen Harper to blame, this program of failure and smug complacency belongs solely to Prime Minister Trudeau.

Canada deserves better.
