REALITY CHECK: Trudeau set to abandon newly unemployed

On the heels of an employment report showing Canada lost 68,000 jobs and unemployment increasing in May, Justin Trudeau shared pretty words to connect with those newly unemployed:

“If you lost your job, we’re here for you… we have your back as long as this crisis lasts.” CPAC (6:25) June 4, 2021

These pretty words ring hollow in the face of his own callous Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) cuts in Budget 2021. If Justin Trudeau gets his way, CRB payments will be slashed by $800 - from $2,000 per month to $1,200 as soon as July.

For the almost 2 million Canadians struggling through no fault of their own, these cuts couldn’t come at a worse time.

So while Justin Trudeau talks about supporting unemployed Canadians, his actions show he is abandoning them. If he really cared about the unemployed, he would reverse his callous CRB cuts in Budget 2021… now.

Canadians deserve better.
