REALITY CHECK: Session Wrap up - All talk Trudeau
If the last 2 years have demonstrated anything to Canadians it's that Justin Trudeau’s words and actions never match. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the most egregious ‘say one thing; do another’ whoppers Trudeau has told to Canadians.
On COVID unemployment supports
Pretty words: “If you lost your job, we’re here for you… we have your back as long as this crisis lasts.”
Action: Justin Trudeau is cutting Canada Recovery Benefit payments by $800 this July - a 40% support cut for unemployed Canadians.
On being a Feminist
Pretty words: “Yes, absolutely, I'm a feminist”
Action: Justin Trudeau ignored the toxic ‘old boys’ club’ culture in the Armed Forces, mishandled sexual misconduct allegations, and ignored clear recommendations of the 2015 Deschamps Report.
On Indigenous relationships
Pretty words: “No relationship is more important to Canada than the relationship with Indigenous Peoples.”
Action: Justin Trudeau continues to fight Indigenous kids, survivors of Residential Schools, their families and communities in court.
On First Nations boil water advisories
Pretty words from 2015:
Trudeau: “We’ll address [the boil water advisories] as a top priority because it’s not right in a country like Canada that this has gone on for far too long.” Questioner: “So to be clear, you are committing that within 5 years there will be clean water on all First Nations?” Trudeau: “And for all those 93 communities, yes.”
Action: 6 years later, there remain 51 boil water advisories in a country like Canada.
On Pharmacare
Pretty Words: "It's Coming"
Action: It is not coming. He voted against it and has shown no interest in delivering Pharmacare.
On protecting seniors
Pretty Words: 2020 Throne Speech “set new, national standardsfor long-term care so that seniors get the best support possible”
Action: Budget 2021 abandons his commitment and instead hands the process over to industry run, voluntary accreditation services.
On fighting climate change and the Paris Accord
Pretty words: “Canada is back, my good friends. We are here to help. To build an agreement that will do our children and our grandchildren proud.”
Action: Canada is the only G7 nation whose greenhouse gas emissions have increased since the Paris climate agreement was signed. And for good measure, Justin Trudeau bought an oil pipeline.
With a Prime Minister who will say one thing and do the opposite, it’s clear that Canadians deserve better.
