REALITY CHECK: NDP always ready to help Canadians

As Canadians anxiously watch the Delta variant grow, Justin Trudeau remains focused on blaming others for his own failings. In fact, his Ministers have been working overtime pointing the finger at everyone but themselves for their legislative shortcomings. Sadly, the receipts don’t match.

Why is conversion therapy still legal? Ask Trudeau, because New Democrats (along with over 18,000 Canadians) have been pushing Liberals to act since early 2019.

Why are discriminatory mandatory minimum sentences still in place—sentences the government itself admits result in “disproportionate representation of Indigenous peoples, as well as Black Canadians in the criminal justice system”? Again, ask Trudeau—New Democrats have been asking for changes since 2018.

These are just two pieces of legislation New Democrats could help advance today.

And from doubling CERB, to boosting CEWS from 10% to 75%, to sharpening Net-Zero legislation, New Democrats have proven they’re ready to improve Liberal legislation to help Canadians.

How ready are they? Very. Just this March, NDP House Leader Peter “taking care of business and working overtime” Julian asked to extend sitting hours to help expedite good bills. Three extra months of midnight sittings. Sadly, Liberals said no.

If Justin Trudeau wanted, he could call those tweeting Ministers back to work now to help Canadians. Instead, Trudeau and his caucus will continue to spin “dysfunction” as their thinly veiled pretense for a summer election.

Canadians deserve better.
