Reality Check: Jason Kenney part-time history revisionist

Today in the House of Commons Jason Kenney flat out denied that Conservatives implemented a 15% wage incentive for companies to replace Canadians with foreign workers.

“I do not know whether the Leader of the Opposition has been improperly briefed or whether he knows he is wrong when he says that the rules allow for foreign workers to be underpaid. That is not true. People cannot come into this country to work on work permits unless they are paid at the prevailing regional wage rate.”

– Hon Jason Kenney, Hansard, April 29, 2013

Sadly, a single press release refutes this Minister. And who did the release come from? The Minister himself.

“A new wage structure will also be introduced to provide employers with greater flexibility. Wages that are up to 15% below the average wage for an occupation in a specific region will be accepted.”

– Office of Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Apr 25, 2012

Oddly the new wage structure once endorsed by this government has been erased on the internets.

Fortunately, with the help of Google cache the Government of Canada website promoting this wage depressing policy tool can be found here.

Sadly, we can expect Jason Kenney to continue to deny this ever happened.

Canadians deserve better.
