REALITY CHECK: Freeland demands “progressive” cuts

Canada lost 68,000 jobs in May.

There are currently close to 2 million Canadians on the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB).

Yet in the face of these devastating labour market facts, and in her first Budget, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is slashing CRB benefits by 40%, or $800 a month.

Chrystia Freeland is threatening that without these cuts, Canadians could face an election cancelling any extension for unemployed Canadians. “Take a cut or get cut off” - this is her ultimatum.

The Liberal House Leader calls this “progressive”.

Justin Trudeau claims he supports unemployed Canadians while cutting their benefits and calling it progressive.

Struggling Canadians deserve so much better.
