REALITY CHECK: Dental care—not billionaires.

Here are some facts to consider:

• According to StatsCan, more than 1 in 5 Canadiansavoid the dentist every year because of the cost—a number that has surely grown under COVID.
• Canada’s billionaires have added $78 Billion to their wealthsince the pandemic got underway 14 months ago.
• Teeth, a part of your body, are not covered under the Canada Health Act.

Politics is about choices. Allowing breathtaking greed whilst simultaneously ignoring the suffering of Canadians is a choice Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have made.

NDP MP Jack Harris’ Motion 62, which lays out a path to fix our national dental care mess, is up for debate today. Though, given the Liberals’ previous vote against taxing the rich to pay for dental care, we’re not holding our breath for their support.

It’s time to put the priorities of ordinary people first, instead of the super-rich. Canadians deserve better.
