PM needs to be clear with Canadians about vaccine

NDP Public Services and Procurement Critic, Matthew Green, made the following statement:

“During Thursday’s meeting of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Jody Thomas, Deputy Minister for the Department of Defence, stated that the department has not been asked to take any role in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. This puts into question comments Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has previously made.

The news from both Pfizer and Moderna about their progress on finalizing a vaccine will no doubt be encouraging for Canadians who have been put through a difficult time these past few months. This week the Prime Minister said that he’s looking at vaccines being available to Canadians within the first three months of 2021, touting that the military would be part of the distribution network. Now we’re hearing that the government has not requested the military’s involvement and the clock is ticking.

People deserve honest timelines and they have the right to know how the government plans to distribute these vaccines, when they become available. The Liberal government needs to be more transparent about their approach to the distribution of this vaccine.”
