New Democrats launching initiative to develop bold vision for the Prairies

New Democrats are launching an initiative in Western Canada to develop an alternative to the Conservatives’ neglect of the Prairies as part of a progressive vision for a Canada where no one is left behind.

“The NDP has recently achieved historic breakthroughs across this country and with this initiative, we’re laying the foundation for victory in the Prairies,” said NDP President Rebecca Blaikie. “This is part of our plan to go head-to-head with the Conservatives - and win.”

New Democrats will develop a bold vision for Westerners, grounded in the party’s strong prairie roots and moving forward with a determination to stand up for Canadians in the Prairies on the federal stage. This grassroots initiative is being guided by progressives from across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

“The Conservatives have taken Canadians in the Prairies for granted for too long. They’ve gutted the wheat board, wiped out environmental protections and neglected rural and Aboriginal communities,” said Blaikie.

“New Democrats are doing politics differently. We are having a dialogue with progressives across this region where they will have the opportunity to share their ideas and expertise.”
