NDP Statement on Remembrance Day

On Remembrance Day, the Leader of Canada's NDP Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“Today, we honour soldiers and Veterans past and present of the Canadian Armed Forces who dedicated their lives in service for Canadians. Men, women, Indigenous peoples, members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community all proudly serve Canadians equally.

Members of the Canadian Armed Forces have always played an important role here at home and internationally. They support others, whether they were called on to care for seniors living in long-term care homes during the worst of the pandemic, assisting families in Atlantic Canada with the devastating effects of Hurricane Fiona and in British Columbia with floods or forest fires, or making invaluable contributions to help in global crises.

We remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty, and those who were forever changed by their experiences.

Canada’s Veterans and their families deserve to be better supported. For too long, government after government has not met the needs of Veterans in Canada. Veterans and their families deserve more than empty promises, they deserve respect.

New Democrats will continue to listen to and advocate for the needs of all of those who served and are serving. We’ll always remember their selfless courage, sacrifice and the high price of war, today and every day.

Lest we forget.”
