NDP Statement marking the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism

Leader of Canada’s NDP Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“Today we mark a devastating day in Canadian history. On this day thirty-seven years ago, a horrific act of terrorism took the lives of 329 people aboard Air India Flight 182.

I extend my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this devastating act of terror. As we mourn the lives lost, it is important that we all recommit to making sure acts of violence and terror like this never happen again.

Today, we stand in solidarity with all of those who have felt the pain and anguish that comes from losing a loved one because of violence.

It is events like the Air India Flight 182 and the lives they cost that mean we must continue to work to fight terrorism and the conditions that cause it. This is why we must always fight for peace, understanding and the protection of basic human rights.

On behalf of all New Democrats, I extend my deepest condolences to all those who have been impacted by acts of terror within Canada or elsewhere.”
