NDP statement on Gilles Latulippe’s death

Official Opposition Heritage critic Pierre Nantel made the following statement on the passing of Gilles Latulippe:

"A figurehead of Quebec popular culture, Gilles Latulippe touched the imagination of generations of Quebecers and always knew how to make us laugh. With his immense talent, he set the foundation for the golden age of comedy in Quebec.

The funnyman behind Symphorien Laperle was respected by all and became a household name among the great Québécois actors – from Janine Sutto to Fernand Gignac, Jean-Louis Millette to Roger Giguère, Olivier Guimond to Béatrice Picard and Suzanne Lapointe. All who worked with Latulippe were witness to his great theatrical skill and comic genius. Gilles Latulippe was a great comedian, an unparalleled professional and a widely respected artist.

A prolific actor, comic and producer, he was still busy making people laugh at his summer theatre in Drummondville this year. His legendary Theâtre des Variétés will forever carry his name: Le La Tulipe!

We will be remembering you for many years to come Gilles!"
