NDP Statement on the Anniversary of the Attack of the National War Memorial and Parliament in Ottawa

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:

“Four years ago today, an attack on the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill claimed the life of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who was on sentry duty that day, and injured several others – just two days after an attack on Canadian soldiers in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu that took the life of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.

Today, we pay tribute to them, and extend our deepest sympathies to their families, friends, and communities.

We owe the members of our Canadian Armed Forces who faced these attacks, and the first responders to both scenes, a debt of gratitude for their service.

These attacks were intended to terrorize us – but instead, they helped unite us. Today, as we remember those who were lost four years ago, let’s also commit to each other to never waver in our core values as Canadians. We will not be divided by hatred and fear.”
