NDP Statement on the anniversary of 9/11 and the National Day of Service

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:

“In the hours and days following the September 11 attacks, people all across Canada stepped in to volunteer their services in response to that horrible event, with kindness and courage, and in the spirit of unity and compassion.

On the anniversary of September 11, 2001, New Democrats join with all Canadians in honouring all those who tragically lost their lives, were injured and forever changed, and show gratitude for those who sacrificed so much on that fateful day.

As communities, businesses, social services, first responders, and volunteer agencies joined hands across the country to help our American friends, they showed our true Canadian character – acts of generosity that remind us of the best in humanity.

On this National Day of Service, New Democrats pay homage to the Canadians who were lost on 9/11, and we honour the sacrifice and kindness of those who served in rescue efforts and volunteered in relief projects during this unprecedented day and the days that followed.

On a day meant to turn an infamous date into a day of hope, let us be inspired to show the same kind of compassion to those in need – by engaging in charitable activities, volunteering in our communities, or helping our friends and neighbours.”
