NDP statement on the 30th anniversary of Women’s History Month

Leader of Canada’s NDP Jagmeet Singh issued the following statement:

“This October we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Women’s History Month. Throughout this month, we honour the brave women and girls from our past, and our present, who fought, and continue to fight, to make our communities and country more inclusive.

This year’s theme, She Did, So Now I Can, celebrates the commitment and hard work of Canadian women that advance the rights of women and girls in our communities today. We celebrate Canadian women who contribute to building a country without barriers for women and girls to fulfill their dreams and aspirations. And a country where women, girls, and gender diverse people can live and prosper safely and without threat to their health and wellbeing based on their gender.

As we witness intensifying rhetoric that threaten the safety of women, girls, and gender diverse people, New Democrats will continue to fight for a safer, more just, and equal country. We are committed to lifting women and girls by making sure they have the supports they need and the services that allow them to advance. From safe access to reproductive health services, to wage equity and to more supports for survivors of gender-based violence, New Democrats will continue to stand for women’s rights.

This month, I encourage Canadians across the country to honour and recognize the courageous women who fought to make our society more just and equal.”
