NDP in Solidarity with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

OTTAWA – To mark tomorrow’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, New Democrats joined with the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the PSAC National Indigenous Peoples’ Circle to stand in solidarity with all of the Indigenous women and girls who have been a victim or survivor of violence.

“While the inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women continues, Justin Trudeau should make a clear commitment that the report won’t just sit on a shelf, but will result in real, tangible action,” said NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh. “We can begin the work right now to put an end to this ongoing tragedy and ensure justice and healing for everyone affected.”

Tomorrow, vigils will be held across the country to remember the women who have lost their lives to gender-based violence.

“Trudeau’s Liberal government must ensure that the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls leads to justice and healing for all,” added NDP MP Sheri Benson. “We need to make sure the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls are at the centre of this inquiry and are being heard, informed, and supported throughout the process.”
