NDP REALITY CHECK: Trickle-Down Racism in the Conservative Ranks

Mere weeks since the Prime Minster attempted to score political points by linking mosques to terrorism, it seems Conservative MPs are taking their cue from the Prime Minister when it comes to stoking intolerance and spouting racially-charged remarks.

Conservative MP John Williamson (Harper’s erstwhile director of communications) found a uniquely offensive way to complain about the Temporary Foreign Worker Program:

“…it makes no sense to pay ‘whities’ to stay home while we bring in brown people to work in these jobs.” – MP John Williamson, Manning Networking Conference, March 7, 2015

Conservative MP Diane Ablonczy didn’t miss her cue either, attacking the head of a Canadian Muslim group with unfounded allegations of ties to “Islamic terrorist groups,” while he testified on Bill C-51.

Not to be outdone, Conservative MP Larry Miller (once dubbed “the voice in Stephen Harper’s ear”) took to the airwaves this week to tell any Muslim woman who might want to take the citizenship oath with her niqab on to “stay the hell where you came from.”

Meanwhile Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau refuses to oppose Stephen Harper’s divisive and dangerous bill.

We deserve a Prime Minister who will unite Canadians, not divide us for their own short term political gain – a principled leader like Tom Mulcair, who can be trusted to stand up against Mr. Harper’s intolerance and defend the rights and freedoms of all Canadians.
