NDP REALITY CHECK: Justin Trudeau says it’s up to “everyone else” to oppose C-51

Justin Trudeau was on the hot seat last night at a Liberal Party event over his position on Stephen Harper’s over-reaching terror bill.

Trudeau said it was up to “everyone else” to oppose the bill – while he and his Liberal MPs would continue to fall in behind Stephen Harper and support the controversial Conservative legislation.

“Thank you for expressing your concern…We’ve heard this from Canadians and I share those concerns about this bill and that’s why the pressure that you and everyone else are putting on this government is getting them to understand that if they don’t bring in oversight, they’re going to have a very difficult time in the next election campaign.” – Justin Trudeau, University of British Columbia, March 4, 2015

When pressed for whether he would vote for Harper’s bill even if no Liberal amendments were accepted, Trudeau admitted: “We’re still going to support the bill, yes.”

Meanwhile, Liberal MP Adam Vaughan took to Twitter to explain why he plans on throwing up his hands in the face of Stephen Harper’s nasty bill.

“The way to deal w what's wrong with Bill C51 is at the ballot box. Pretending Harper will bend is fooling Cdns.” – Adam Vaughan, Tweet March 4, 2015

Holding the government to account when they go too far is the first job of every MP.

Unfortunately, Justin Trudeau is yet again showing his inexperience and lack of judgment, allowing Stephen Harper to bully him into abdicating his responsibilities.

Meanwhile, NDP leader Tom Mulcair continues to demonstrate what a principled leader looks like.
