NDP react to increase to OAS

The NDP Critic for Seniors, Scott Duvall, made the following statement:

"While the Liberals say nice things about seniors having faced economic hardship during the pandemic and that after a lifetime of hard work they deserve a dignified retirement, their actions paint a different picture. The Liberals seem to believe these sentiments apply only to some seniors, leaving out so many seniors from the OAS increase.

For over a year, New Democrats have requested that all seniors receive additional financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the government continues to refuse to help. Instead, the Liberals are trying to pass off this one-time payment that will only go to seniors 75 and older as sufficient.

This is one of the many ways the Liberals have proven they are not fighting for seniors in Canada. They have refused our calls to fix the long term care centres, that saw so many deaths during the pandemic, by taking the profit out of these homes and creating national standards

While the Liberals continue to put on a show on their road to an election, New Democrats will continue to fight for seniors and for all seniors to be included in any OAS increase, and stop this two-tier nonsense."
