NDP pressure puts EI Appeal Board changes back on the parliamentary agenda

In response to the federal government’s new legislation on the Employment Insurance (EI) appeals, NDP Critic for Employment and Workforce Development, Daniel Blaikie, issued the following statement:

“The EI Appeal Process has been broken for too long. The Liberals' attempt to change it earlier this year fell flat right out the gate.

We agreed to remove those provisions from the Budget Implementation Act on the condition that the government propose a better proposal for reform this year, instead of having this important issue fall off the radar.

We are glad to see the government keep this commitment and welcome the tabling of this new bill. We look forward to studying the legislation and working to bring meaningful reform to the EI appeal system so that it serves Canadian workers better.”
