NDP gets ready for the first day of their 2021 convention

OTTAWA – The NDP’s 2021 Convention, taking place from April 9-11, promises to showcase the gains New Democrats have made for Canadians from coast to coast to coast in the last year and how they will continue to fight for people and the help they need.

“I am really looking forward to connecting with New Democrats across the country this weekend. Our convention is a great opportunity to show how we have made a real difference in people's lives this past year, delivering more help for more people faster,” said NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh. “New Democrats will continue to fight for people to help them get through this pandemic and beyond.”

NDP provincial party leaders like John Horgan, Rachel Notley, Ryan Meili, Wab Kinew, Andrea Horwath, Gary Burrill and Kate White are included in this weekend’s lineup of exceptional speakers. To open the first day of the convention, participants will also hear from Ed Broadbent.

The NDP has accomplished a lot for Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trudeau offered an EI that would leave most people behind. Jagmeet fought and won, the Canada Emergency Relief Benefit (CERB) was created – sending immediate, direct relief to Canadians. Millions of Canadians got $2,000 cheques thanks to the NDP. Jagmeet made sure small businesses got the support they needed to stay open and keep people working. New Democrats fought hard to make sure students, seniors and people with disabilities weren’t left behind by the Trudeau government.

“The last few months have shown that when you send New Democrats to Ottawa, we’ll get results,” said Singh. “There’s so much more that’s possible to make life better for young people, workers and families. We have a plan to make that happen.”
