NDP Announces New Democratic Reform Critic

OTTAWA – Today, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has assigned NDP MP Daniel Blaikie (Elmwood—Transcona) the role of Democratic Reform Critic. This role was previously held by MP Nathan Cullen (Skeena—Bulkley Valley) who will now fill the Democratic Reform Deputy Critic role.

“Two thirds of Canadians voted for parties promising electoral reform in the last election. Liberals campaigned on democratic reform and broke their promise to Canadians once they formed government,” said Singh. “Nathan did a tremendous job holding the Liberal government accountable and I am confident that Daniel will carry on that great work.”
“I am honoured to take on the role of Democratic Reform Critic and pursue the work of building a coalition of Canadians who believe we can, and we must, change the way we do politics. Justin Trudeau promised Canadians he would do that work,” said Blaikie. “But at the first opportunity, he put the narrow partisan interests of the Liberal party and their corporate friends ahead of the interests of Canadian democracy. Canadians deserve better.”

In addition to this new assignment, Blaikie will continue to be the critic for the Treasury Board, Western Economic Diversification, Public Services and Procurement as well as the deputy critic for Ethics.
