Liberals must end the “old boys’ club” culture of CSIS

The following is a statement issued by Matthew Dubé, NDP Critic for Public Safety:

"In July, the shocking allegations of consistent harassment, fueled by racist, homophobic and Islamophobic notions suggested the presence of deep-rooted bigotry within CSIS. A lawsuit filed by five former CSIS employees alleged that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service is a toxic workplace with managers who promote an "old boys’ club" environment.
Yesterday, a third-party assessment of the CSIS Toronto Office was made public, showing that a majority of employees did not trust management or most decision-making processes when it comes to providing a safe and harassment-free environment.
Despite the Minister of Public Safety calling these types of behavior unacceptable, we are now in late fall and he has yet to take any concrete actions. We need more than words, we need leadership.
Once again, I am calling on Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale to immediately launch a comprehensive and credible investigation into claims of rampant and persistent discrimination within CSIS and the impacts it has on employees’ working conditions, and on the quality of work produced. Those responsible for this unacceptable behaviour must be held accountable.
We must stand up against hate everywhere it exists."
