The Liberals must do everything in their power to bring loved ones back home

Canada's NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh issued the following statement:

“I stand in solidarity with the relatives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people who are grieving and hope to see their loved ones brought back home.

All levels of government have the responsibility to support all efforts to search for the remains of loved ones in the Prairie Green Landfill. While the province of Manitoba decides to forgo these searches, the Liberal government in Ottawa is pointing fingers and hiding behind jurisdictions to avoid taking action. The Assembly of First Nations just passed a resolution saying the federal government has a role to play in the search and evading it would be letting down families looking for closure.

Families are being abandoned by all levels of government who are failing to treat what all Parliamentarians in the House of Commons recognized as a Canada-wide emergency with the urgency it deserves. This is a national shame. We must do better. The federal government must do better.

The Liberals must do everything they can to search for the remains of loved ones in the Prairie Green Landfill. Giving up is not an option—and families will never give up on their loved ones.

Enough with the platitudes. Enough with the empty promises and words. Families deserve closure and they deserve justice once and for all. The Liberals must step up and get to work.”
