Liberals can’t have their head in the sand when it comes to climate change

NDP Environment Critic Alexandre Boulerice made the following statement:

"The Environment Minister may claim that Canada will reach Stephen Harper’s GHG reduction targets by 2030, but science doesn’t lie. Even Bill Nye the Science Guy is questioning the government’s environmental decision making, especially when it comes to the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

When I see the environmental decisions this government has made, I just can’t see how the Liberals can reconcile their rhetoric with their actions.

Time is running out. If we are going to fight climate change, we need to act now. Between the last two UN reports, GHG emissions increased by 22 megatons in Canada. That’s not the path Canadians expect us to take.

We need to cut through the spin: Canada won’t convince Canadians or the international community of the seriousness of their intentions to protect the environment when they keep approving pipeline projects using outdated and inadequate environmental assessment processes.

It is time for the Trudeau government to seriously commit to reducing Canada’s greenhouse gases so that Canadians can be proud of our country’s efforts to fight climate change. Fancy words in Paris don’t reduce emissions domestically."
