Justin Trudeau’s private healthcare hypocrisy

Asked yesterday about the expansion of private healthcare across the country, Dr. Katherine Smart of the Canadian Medical Association pointed to federal underfunding as a driver:

“Are these innovations? Or are these things that are needed in public system that provinces wanted to implement that weren’t adequately funded through public funding and through the Canadian health care federal transfers? If we believe these are things that patients need, I think we need to demand adequate funding.” (CTV, Aug 24 2021)

After the Conservatives cut the health transfer escalator from 6% to 3%, Trudeau kept that cut.

Under Justin Trudeau:

Saskatchewan has been letting people pay to jump the queue for MRIs for years without action from Trudeau to enforce the Canada Health Act.

New Brunswick and Ontario are violating the Canada Health Act by making people pay for abortions. Trudeau only announced he would start enforcing the act against New Brunswick in an election year. He’s made no move to support Ontarians.

Private virtual health services are on the rise – with fees attached.

And Trudeau recently teamed up with Erin O’Toole and voted to keep profit in long-term seniors care.
