Justin Trudeau's Budget Fails Quebecers

OTTAWA – Once again this year, Justin Trudeau ignored the needs of Quebecers with the federal budget. The people of Quebec deserve a government in Ottawa that will do its part to help build a better future.

"100,000 young Quebecers were on the street last week asking Justin Trudeau's Liberals to take a bold step forward to fight climate change," said NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. “Yet there is nothing in the budget that responds to their cries to protect the planet. The new investments announced are very meek compared to what the Liberals are investing in fossil fuels. This is wrong.”

The Government of Quebec has asked for an increase in the health care transfers cut by the Liberals, but there is nothing in the budget to help Quebec provide better health care. Quebec also announced that it will ask Netflix and other web giants to pay their fair share, but Justin Trudeau abandoned them once again.

"We all know that Quebecers are paying a lot of money to compensate for tax havens and tax loopholes, and yesterday's budget does nothing to recover the $16 billion a year it costs us," added Deputy Leader Alexandre Boulerice. “Quebecers are tired of half measures, and they deserve a government that truly understands its distinctiveness and is willing to do its part to allow Quebecers to build a better future.”

Several organizations called for the establishment of public and universal drug coverage, but there is nothing in the budget that will ensure that Quebecers pay less for their drugs. The Liberal government also announced the same amount as the Conservatives for compensation for dairy producers. The NDP’s Quebec caucus believes this situation is wrong.

New Democrats will continue to fight for Quebecers in Ottawa.
