Jim Flaherty’s failed smoke screen tactic
Far from the apocalyptic portrait Jim Flaherty tried to paint, the NDP convention instead showed Canadians that New Democrats share their values and priorities.
The NDP adopted resolutions calling for an end to tax havens (1-01-13), a strong defense of supply management (1-03-13), a strengthening of the rail service in Canada (1-05-13), more support for Veterans (4-01-13 Omnibus 1 – Veterans), a defence of seniors and retirees (3-03-13) and an end to the Conservatives senseless attacks against unions (1-02-13).
Flaherty would nonetheless be outraged by these ideas, since his government has shown time and again that they aren’t interested in these issues for Canada’s future.
Flaherty was only trying to change the channel from his own record: imposing taxes on MP3 players, bicycles and countless other items and doing nothing about the 55,000 jobs lost last month.
Canadians deserve better.
While Conservatives keep listening to their big oil and big bank friends, New Democrats will keep working to build a better country for everyone.
