Jagmeet Singh fighting for workers and their families in New Brunswick

BATHURST — Today, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh visited Bathurst, joined by former NDP MP Yvon Godin, to meet with people and talk about how the NDP will keep fighting to make people’s lives better. People in New Brunswick, like so many people across the country, struggled during COVID-19. Many lost their jobs. The NDP had to push Justin Trudeau’s Liberals to deliver the help workers and their families needed to afford rent, pay their bills and put food on the table.
“Families really struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic and they needed help,” said Singh. “In the pandemic, Justin Trudeau had to be forced by the NDP to provide people with any real support. He wanted people who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 to live on $1000 a month. New Democrats knew that wasn’t enough for families to pay rent, food and bills. So we fought back, and we doubled help for families to $2000 a month. The NDP is on your side and we will keep fighting to help families.”
Singh also shared his plan to keep fighting for Canadians to get better jobs and to create more jobs that will help families in New Brunswick. New Democrats will improve the quality of workplaces for Canadian workers; build the infrastructure our communities need; increase our domestic production capacity for vaccines, personal protective equipment and other things Canadians need; and support the workers who care for our loved ones. To tackle the climate crisis that is devastating communities across Canada, the NDP is committed to helping Canadian workers make products that people want and need, and that will better position us to fight the climate crisis and build the economy of the future.
“Canadians deserve a government that is on their side, that won’t just talk a good talk but will make life better for workers and their families,” said Singh. “New Democrats will fight for you and deliver the help you need while fighting the climate crisis like we want to win.”
