History 101

"The NDP has always been particularly lukewarm when it comes to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms documents because of the unfortunate way that Quebec chose to not sign onto the constitution"

  • Justin Trudeau, April 17, 2013

Trudeau should know that it was Tommy Douglas who introduced the Saskatchewan Bill of Rights in 1947.

Not to mention that it was Ed Broadbent and NDP premier Allan Blakeney who worked to create the Charter with Mr. Trudeau's father.

Ed Broadbent in particular pushed for the inclusion of First Nations rights in the Charter.

As someone who told a Quebec audience that the problem with the country is that it’s run by Albertans, he should chose his words more carefully.
