As families struggle to afford their mortgages, Singh fights for relief for Canadians

“Mortgage and credit rates are going up at a time when families are already having to make tough choices about what they can and can no longer afford. A report out today says families are deciding which groceries they can and can't buy and are cutting back on seeing their loved ones this holiday season. After two years of isolation due to COVID-19, this is especially heartbreaking for families who were hoping to finally get together.

Canadian families shouldn’t have to worry about losing their home because of ballooning mortgage payments or worry about losing their jobs if we end up in a recession. They deserve a government that doesn't make them shoulder every crisis, while rich corporations make massive profits at their expense.

Canadians can’t afford to keep waiting for the Liberal government to get it and put them first. And they're tired of Conservative noise without any solutions to concretely help their families. The Liberal government has tools at their disposal to fix this. They can go after corporate greed to make big corporations pay what they owe to lower costs for the rest of us. And they can fix EI so if we do end up in a recession, workers who lose their job can be covered.

New Democrats stand with you. We won’t stop fighting for you and your family -- to fight against high prices driven by corporate greed and to make sure your hard work is respected with good wages and better working conditions."
