The cost of Trudeau’s promise on cell phone bills

Justin Trudeau has dropped his 2019 promise to save families $1000/year on their cell phone bills. His 2021 platform includes no commitment to affordable cell or wireless services.

Big telecoms lobbied Trudeau’s government officials 577 times in the span of a year.

Trudeau voted with Erin O’Toole againstcapping prices to save families money on their phone and wireless bills.

Communications law professor Michael Geist said of the Liberal platform: “To simply abandon wireless affordability is remarkable, sending an unmistakable signal that the Liberals have sided with the Big Three telecom providers (Bell, Rogers and Telus) over the interests of Canadian consumers.”
