***CORRECTION*** Conservative iPod tax

Since New Democrats refuse to adopt the Conservative approach of burying their heads in the sand every time they make a mistake, it’s important for us to recognize an error in last week’s Reality Check titled “Conservative iPod tax lie.”

The text claimed that tariffs imposed by the Conservatives in their latest budget would increase the price of iPods. That it would create an iPod tax, a concept many Conservative ministers have opposed in the past.

Our language associated this tax exclusively to iPods which unfortunately may have misled readers. This new Conservative tax will in fact apply to all types of MP3 players, not just iPods. Canadians will therefore pay more for all of these devices, regardless of their brand name preference.

New Democrats would like to apologize for downplaying the extent of the new Conservative tax on MP3 players.

Canadians deserve better.
