Best Finance Minister in the World? Not if you ask the experts

When it comes to confronting big banks, Jim Flaherty isn’t the powerful man the Conservative government would have you believe he is.

On Friday, Flaherty expressed his concern about the Bank of Montreal lowering interest rates to 2.99 per cent, citing fear of a financial crash similar to that in the US. He urged other lenders to not follow suit.

Two days later more financial institutions ignored his plea and lowered their interest rates anyway.

If Jim Flaherty really was the ‘best Finance Minister in the world’ as Stephen Harper wants us to believe, don’t you think the banks would listen?

Canadians deserve better.
