Web Developer, Permanent, Full-Time Position

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to requests for web support and liaise with MP offices on all website related matters
  • Build digital assets such as online petitions, email advocacy campaigns and custom MP and issue-based websites
  • Provide technical support for staff on the use of NDP digital tools­
  • Provide training when necessary to staff using NDP websites and web tools
  • Develop new tools and functionality for NDP Caucus websites as needed
  • Develop custom CSS styling and HTML markup for NDP caucus websites
  • Collaborate with outside back-end developers to implement new digital tools as required
  • Ensure new tools can provide the optimal user experience for Parliamentary and Constituency staff
  • Lead design and creation of websites and templates using PHP and Drupal
  • Collaborate with management and operation of email and digital engagement tools
  • Manage online services like Google Analytics
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of domain names and manage user permissions for caucus websites
  • Work collaboratively as part of the communications team
  • Other duties as required­

Qualifications

  • Bilingualism required, both oral and written
  • Experience in technical assistance and writing detailed technical guides
  • Strong communications skills with front-end users and other back-end developers
  • Strong understanding of LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) and an interest in all software technology
  • Experience with front-end web design (HTML & CSS)
  • Ability to self-teach with the help of Internet resources
  • Ability to grasp programming concepts like variables, if-statements, loops, and functions
  • Understanding of core concepts related to programming in PHP, Python, JavaScript and jQuery
  • Experience with content management systems like Drupal, WordPress, or similar
  • Experience with hosting and managing Nginx/Apache servers
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work productively under pressure, and handle competing priorities
  • Ability to show initiative and manage projects independently
  • Political judgment and existing knowledge of Canadian politics

Additional Assets

  • Experience using online services like Google Analytics
  • Experience using social media services like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube
  • Familiar with cross platform web development
  • Experience in web accessibility guidelines, responsive web design and search engine optimization
  • Experience with Linux command line or Mac Terminal

Annual salary

$62,500

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
