Translator (English to French) - Permanent, Full-Time Position

Responsibilities

  • Provide English to French translation to support the NDP Leader and Caucus
  • Translate press releases, letters, notices, memos, research papers, speeches, policy documents and other written materials as required
  • Coordinate and prioritize material for translation with the Deputy Director of Communications
  • Provide revisions and quality control of material translated externally
  • Ability to work some irregular hours and to provide assistance to staff with grammar and terminology requests
  • Maintain a log of all translation requests received
  • Work collaboratively to advance the NDP caucus parliamentary goals and agenda
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and superior oral and written French language skills
  • A degree in translation or related field or demonstrated previous translation and writing experience
  • Demonstrated strategic political judgment and existing knowledge of contemporary Canadian politics and current affairs
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in both official languages
  • Ability to work under pressure in a cooperative environment
  • Knowledge of the New Democratic Party and its structures
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent Word processing skills
  • Knowledge of online and computer-assisted translation tools

Annual salary

$62,500

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
