Tour Officer - Permanent, Full-Time Position

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Director of Outreach, work with local party, section, riding & other organizations to organize events and meetings in the Parliamentary Leader’s schedule
  • Arrange meetings, phone calls, other items and plan events in the Parliamentary Leader’s schedule and send out calendars and itineraries
  • Work with Research staff and Communications staff to ensure all relevant details are available for media releases, briefing notes, etc.
  • Work with Director of Outreach and the media team on longer term strategic tour planning
  • Seek out new and politically relevant events for the Parliamentary Leader and members of Caucus, in conjunction with the Director of Outreach and senior staff
  • Receive and respond to incoming invitations and requests, as directed
  • Handle transportation and lodging arrangements, dealings with travel agencies, and related duties as assigned
  • Monitor travel and tour-related expenses including the travel points system and prepare budgets, as directed by the Director of Outreach
  • Assist with general administrative duties in the Parliamentary Leader’s Office
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience in planning and scheduling tours and events, including some knowledge of the airline and hospitality industries
  • Experience working with broad networks, especially working in a variety of diverse communities
  • Ability to plan, execute, and document travel plans
  • Proven ability to work with little supervision
  • Knowledge of the NDP, the labour movement and Canadian public affairs, sound political judgment
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, to prioritise tasks and multitask in an environment with constantly changing priorities, moving parts and tight deadlines
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a creative team environment
  • Critically evaluate events and opportunities from a tour lens
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, computer and organizations skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook is essential
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community and social action groups
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and to travel if required
  • Administrative experience in a busy office, including tracking finances and travel
  • Bilingualism and other language skills, an asset

Annual salary

$62,000

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
