Responsibilities
- Prepare documents for Question Period, speaking notes and recommendations for the MP to use in the House of Commons
- Write, collect information and prepare House Holders, mailings, op-ed letters, media advisories, Press Releases, speeches, articles and answering correspondence in collaboration with staff in the riding
- Watch national, regional and local media, and prioritize issues for the MP
- Manage MP’s presence and accounts on social media, to raise the MP’s profile and create uniform branding (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and write for digital campaigns
- Assist the MP with answering correspondence from the riding
- Assist the MP with research, liaising with media and coordinating events
- Organize the MP’s calendar, and meetings in Ottawa, as well as her travel
- Open, file and distribute mail, emails and faxes, and answer as needed
- General administrative and reception duties, and keeping the database up to date
- Other tasks as required
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent computer skills, specifically good knowledge Windows and MS Office
- Solid experience in graphic layout skills, including Photoshop and InDesign
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, the labour movement, government departments, community organizations
- Knowledge of Berthier — Maskinongé and riding priorities
- Sound political judgment
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
- Administrative experience in busy political office
- Knowledge of databases, an asset
- Bilingualism is an asset
Annual salary
$55,000
(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
