Statement by Tom Mulcair on International Workers’ Day

The Leader of the Official Opposition, Tom Mulcair (Outremont), made the following statement on International Worker’s Day:

“Today we celebrate International Workers’ Day, an occasion for us to recognize the contributions workers here in Canada and around the world. “

“Workers are the backbone of our economy — providing the public services we rely on, harnessing our natural resources, and powering our manufacturing sector.”

“Unfortunately, Stephen Harper’s Conservative government has not given workers the respect they deserve. Instead, they have attacked collective bargaining rights, rolled back pay equity for women, and weakened both pension protection and EI benefits.”

“Workers in Canada deserve better.”

“The New Democrat team is proud to stand with workers who are fighting the Conservative agenda, each and every day. By continuing to work together, we can strengthens rights for workers and build a more prosperous Canada — where no one is left behind."
